DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1997--Advanced Intelligent Networks Corporation (AINC) of Denver, announced the SohoNet(TM) Residential Information Appliance, a hardware/software package which puts homes and businesses on the Internet 24hrs x 7 days a week.
The SohoNet-Ria is a smart appliance which provides Integrated Communications Services targeted to the residential and Small Office/ Home Office (SOHO) markets.
Connected to a digital phone line, the battery backed up unit provides and controls voice, fax, e-mail, printing, and data communications services without the requirement for a PC and at a price targeted at under $300.
David S. Roland, President of AINC has been working on the solution to utilize the rich features provided with The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). "The SohoNet-Ria was designed as a simple appliance such as the television or phone," said Roland, "But, don't let simple imply 'limited.' The SohoNet-Ria enables sophisticated information and message processing capabilities providing complete control over home and business communications."
The SohoNet-Ria, extended from a WaveRunner Technologies/IBM product, talks to the SohoNet servers through the ISDN line without blocking your phone or computer communications. The servers then help control and provide additional services for your home or business 24 hours a day. The SohoNet(TM) Software which Roland has been developing for the last 6 years, provides a natural and seamless method to control complex services with a simple appliance philosophy. "People have enough troubles resetting the blinking blue VCR clock, let alone configure and use a PC-based adapter and complex Internet protocols for phone calls," quips Roland.
The SohoNet System, consisting of software, servers, and SohoNet-Ria, uses all of the communications protocols in a Basic Rate ISDN phone line to provide extended personal services and total control over each and every communication type and message without your computer being connected or turned on.
The SohoNet-Ria will automatically configure itself and then
provide continuous service for phone calls, news and e-mail. The
Computer user is allowed a 128,000 bps connection to the Internet for
Web Surfing or for use in telecommuting (2-8 times faster than analog
modems).
Advanced Intelligent Networks Corporation provides Internet
access and messaging services in the Denver area and will be
performing a SohoNet-Ria test in the Denver Area before Christmas.
